The Lincolnshire Restaurants I’m Desperate to Try This Summer

I know that it’s been a while now since lockdown ended, but with the weather finally starting to get better, the time feels right to start eating out more again. The restaurant landscape in Lincolnshire is constantly changing, with new eateries seemingly popping up each month. As such, there’s a whole wealth of places both old and new that I’ve yet to visit. Anyone who knows me (or just glanced at my midriff) will know that I love a meal out, and as those warm nights approach us, here’s just a few that I’m planning on trying.

Katana Japanese Cuisine (Grantham)

My wife and I are absolute suckers for Japanese food, to the point where we never quite got over our local sushi joint closing down. When it comes to eating out, very seldom can you say that you’ll be enjoying a relatively healthy dish. Katana though, aim to deliver the “healthiest and freshest Japanese-inspired modern Asian fusion cuisine”. They claim that most of their ingredients are actually imported from Japan and other Asian countries in an effort to bring the most authentic experience possible to your dining.

I’ve also never been to a teppanyaki restaurant in which the food is cooked right at your table. Not only is the preparation of your dish wholly transparent, but it also adds a little entertainment to the evening, as you watch to hopefully try to pick up some culinary tips!

Winteringham Fields (Winteringham)

I’d absolutely love to explore the fine dining on offer at Winteringham Fields. It’s been an absolute age since I dined at a Michelin-starred restaurant. In fact, I’d have to go all the way back to my previous life as a hotshot teenage insurance broker, when my employer would send us away on training courses that doubled up as great excuses for dropping in on some fantastic private dining restaurants that had been booked for us all beforehand. I’ve no idea how my boss was able to scout all these great eateries across the UK in an almost pre-internet age. Well, a crude version of the internet was about, but this was well before we had sites like Squaremeal, that take all of the leg work out of booking private dining restaurants. He must have had one formidable contacts book.

Just looking at the photos of the sumptuous-looking fare on offer at Winteringham Fields makes me yearn for those days when I naively thought haute cuisine would soon become a regular occurrence for me (how wrong I was!). With many ingredients sourced from their own smallholding (in which they grow veg and rear animals), you can be assured that the chef is using the freshest ingredients you’re likely to find. The 16th century former farmhouse also offers luxury rooms for an overnight stay, making this venue perfect for an anniversary meal and short getaway.

Orbis (Stamford)

Interestingly, Orbis have crafted a menu, and carefully sourced their ingredients to ensure that none of their dishes contain any gluten. This isn’t something I’ve ever come across before, and must be an absolute haven for those who struggle with a severe intolerance. As it is, I’m not sure if I might have a mild intolerance myself, so a trip down here would be an extremely pleasant way to experiment a little.

Their expertly curated menu draws inspiration from all over the world, so if even if one of you prefers Morrocan to Japanese cuisine, you’ll all find something equally delicious on the menu. The place itself looks great too, with the rooftop terrace looking perfect for a balmy evening’s meal.

The Bowl Full (Lincoln)

Garnished with countless glowing reviews online, this little tapas bar on the very edge of Lincoln is another that’s piqued my interest. My greediness and fear of missing out is no doubt behind my affection for tapas, and this unassuming little building seems to have built a solid reputation for its authentic fare.

From the looks of other diners’ photographs, the portions look generous for traditionally small plates, meaning that this is definitely on my hit list of places to visit.

I’m bound to have left out a plethora of great restaurants in this list. If you know of any that I should definitely try, then let me know in the comments below. I’m sure I can fit in another meal out somewhere!

  1. Winteringham Fields sounds amazing. I live quite near to it and it’s a dream to go there. If I had the money I would certainly stay over in one of their gorgeous rooms x
