Deliciously Guilt Free Review: Gluten-Free and Keto-Friendly Cakes

“Guilt free” isn’t one of the terms that I’d normally use when describing mouth-watering cakes and treats. For this Deliciously Guilt Free review however, we’re having to flip the rulebook on its head.

Deliciously Guilt Free first hit upon the idea for healthier treats when one of the founders developed diabetes during her pregnancy. After hearing about the benefits of a low-carb diet in combating type 2 diabetes, they set about developing their own cakes that use alternative ingredients to traditional stodgy cakes.

I was interested in trying out their wares for a number of reasons.

Firstly, I love myself a cake.

Secondly, as I find myself fast approaching 40, I’m starting to look more seriously at my health. I’m carrying a slight paunch around with me, and have a history of diabetes on my father’s side of the family. I’ve also wondered if I have a slight intolerance to gluten after some digestive issues.

If you reduce all the sugar and carb content from cakes though, what do you have left? Read on to see if Deliciously Guilt Free hit the mark.

Sure they look good, but more importantly, this Deliciously Guilt Free review will tell you how these puppies taste too!

Deliciously Guilt Free Review

I figured that the best way to get to grips with Deliciously Guilt Free’s offerings was to get a ‘Favourites’ box. They’ve got to be favourites for a reason, right?

Inside was an absolutely lip-smacking selection of different cakes. Just feast your eyes on these beauties.

Blueberry and Lemon Drizzle Cake

For me, any variation of lemon drizzle cake instantly conjures an image of thick, carby sponge. I was amazed then, to find that they’d managed to pull off something like this in a low-carb cake selection.

Not only that, but this had to be one of the best lemon drizzle cakes I’ve had. Lemon can be a strong ingredient, and too often lemon drizzle cake can be overpowered by a synthetic-tasting lemonyness. I’d feared that a recipe that called for less sugar might try to ramp up the lemon taste too much in order to cover any gaps in sweetness.

Thankfully, this wasn’t the case. The cake was lovely and lemony without being overpowering, and allowed the blueberry taste room to make its presence known. Deliciously Guilt Free use natural sweeteners, so the sweetness wasn’t an issue either.

Salted Caramel Blondie

Woah, these must be one of the creamiest, most indulgent cakes I’ve ever had!

It’s almost unfathomable to think that these cakes are part of a ‘guilt free’ range. You certainly don’t feel like you’re compromising on any aspect of a cake-eating experience whilst enjoying them.

They’re sticky, creamy, and taste very naughty indeed!

Chocolate Fudge Brownie

I had to hand over tasting duties here, as I developed an intolerance to cocoa in my twenties (any sympathy gratefully received). Luckily, my son was MORE than happy to try this one out.

He’s six years old, so there’s no nuanced tasting notes here. What I can tell you, is that he closed his eyes, made a lot of “mmm” noises, and asked “have you got any more of those”?

Peanut Butter Brownie

Man, this smelt just as rich and chocolatey as the chocolate fudge brownies, but they also boasted some unctious peanut butter swirled amongst it too.

This time the wife took up the tasting duties from my son, as she stated, and I quote, “these are too good for kids”.

She agreed with my thoughts on the cakes, in that they were light, moist and richly satisfying.

Deliciously Guilt Free Review – Verdict

I mentioned it earlier in the review, but it bears saying again: for cakes that are made to be ‘guilt free’, you really don’t feel as if you’re compromising in any way whatsoever.

If you have any dietary requirements that call for less carbohydrates, less sugar or foods that are free of gluten, then it really is a no-brainer. Get yourself some of these!

To be honest, even if you don’t have any dietary requirements, but just love a good cake, then these are for you too!
