Helping Improve Motivation at Work

When you run your own company, it’s important you look after your employees. Your employees are the beating heart of your company. When they are happy and doing well, you will benefit as you will be making more revenue, which will improve your profits. If they are unhappy, it will be the opposite. They won’t be working as hard, meaning productivity will be low, which will have the knock-on effect of your revenue not being as high.

Helping improve motivation at work can be achieved in a number of ways. It can be done by improving employees’ working conditions, it can be done by offering rewards and bonuses as well as simply telling them they are doing a good job or improving the workwear that they are in.

Below we have put together a quick guide on helping improve motivation at work.

Improve the working conditions

When you walk into the office on a Monday morning after a lovely weekend, what feeling does the office give? Is it a motivational space that makes you want to do well or is it a dull space, where you can make some improvements? Your office can have a big impact on your employee’s mindset. Plants are great for adding colour and breaking white spaces. Your lighting can play a role in how the office feels as well as the paint on the wall. As a business that wants to do well, have a think to see if you can make any improvements to your office.

Offer bonuses and rewards

If an employee is doing well and surpassing their KPIs, how do you reward them for this? A method that most sales companies use is a bonus and reward structure. When KPIs are hit, you will give them a set reward the greater they do the bigger the reward is. By doing this, employees will feel more motivated to work harder as they know they will get more when they do. When your company is hitting quarterly or annual targets, you can also offer bonuses.

Tell them they are doing good

It’s so simple but telling someone they are doing well can be very effective. You will be surprised at how many bosses don’t tell their team they are doing a good job when they are. You don’t want to overdo it, but every now and then, ask the people who are doing well to come into your office and tell them you are proud of what they are doing. This can really help with motivation, doesn’t cost you anything and your employees will appreciate it.

We hope our guide has given you some pointers on ways to improve motivation at work. Everybody is different so what works on one employee may not work on another, which is why it’s important you combine methods to see which ones work best.
