Looking for some plus size men’s summer outfit inspiration but sick of seeing suggestions you’d never ever wear? Me too, that’s why I’ve made this master list of essential items you need in your wardrobe so you can be comfy and feel confident as a plus size man.
Dressing for summer can be a minefield when you’re a plus size man. It can seem like your choices are limited, and you don’t want to end up being forced to wear something that’s not your style.
For whatever reason, plus size men’s Hawaiin shirts are everywhere, year in, year out. And while I love to rock Hawaiin shirts, I understand that they’re not to everyone’s tastes. That why I’m writing a summer essentials style guide. These are wardrobe staples you need to look out for to feel comfortable in the sun. No need to step out of your comfort zone.
Plus Size Men’s Summer Outfit Wardrobe Essentials
When it’s hot and sticky out, the last thing you want is to be wearing something hot, uncomfy and not your normal taste. It can be harder to find wardrobe guidelines when you’re a bigger man, so I’ve made this list to give you some inspiration for your hot summer weather wardrobe.
Linen Shorts
Linen shorts are something everyone can get on with. They’re lightweight, stretchy enough to sit down in and come in a range of colours. that means if you like something that stands out – great news, you can get it. But if you prefer something a little less loud, you grab a stone colour or a navy pair and not have to worry that all eyes are on your shorts.
Comfy Shoes
Extra wide fit shoes are essential in the summer. I think I read that your feet expand in hot weather, so if you’re already dealing with broad feet, you don’t want to be squishing them into standard fit shoes on the hottest day of the year. Chums mens wide fit shoes come in a range of designs ad styles to suit any dress sense. They’re really comfy and a great price too. It’s not often you can tick so many boxes when you’re buying wide fit shoes!

T-Shirts
You need to keep cool, and not beats a T-shirt. A lot more band shirts cater to the bigger sizes now, so you could wear something that supports your favourite band and shows off your preferred style. It’s worth stocking up on some basic tees too. Some good places to buy cheap t-shirts in bigger sizes is Primark and George at Asda. Both affordable options and aware of current fashions. I used to struggle to find trendy clothes in bigger sizes that didn’t cost the earth, but lots of budget brands are getting much better now.
Linen Shirts
Button down linen shirts are also a good option for those very hot days. The fabric doesn’t cling, but it does let a nice breeze to your body. The only thing I will say is that linen can really show off sweat marks if you’re wearing light colours. Weirdly white and cream are fine, but light grey or light blue seem to love showing off that telltale darker ring under your pits and down your back. It’s a comfy, but unforgiving fabric.
Sun Hats
You might thinks sun hats are for toddlers (and of course, they are) but grown ups should be wearing them too. While your head might be on the warm side, sun hats can cast a shadow around your neck and shoulders which will help keep you cooler and stop you from burning. A worthwhile investment if you want to take care of comfort and prevent sunburn.
Vests
For those days where everything is just too warm to wear, you could get some vests. You might prefer the sleeveless T-shirt type of vest over muscle-fit vests, are they tend to have a loose fit. They’re a bit cooler than shirts or T-shirts and are probably as close as you’ll get to just not wearing a top. Of course, you could just walk around topless, but I know a lot of shops prefer their customers to cover up a little, so it’s not really a practical solution.
Let me know what you think of this plus size men’s summer outfit list and if there’s anything you think I should add to it.
