As a lifelong gadget fan, I used to be so anti-purchasing anything refurbished that I would have bet you that I would never be writing an article about their perks.
Why the change? Well, the industry has changed massively, with new phones being launched by brands every year and people rushing to buy the very latest models. This means that the refurbished market has suddenly become a place where you can get the very latest releases from the comfort of your armchair.
Below are my 4 top reasons to consider choosing refurbished for your next phone.
Second-hand not second-rate
As mentioned above, a refurbished phone’s story isn’t just that it’s a ‘used’ device. It could be that someone bought it and changed their mind, or that the phone was exchanged as the screen was cracked. A quick fix and the screen is perfect again, while the tech itself has hardly been used. Sellers of refurbished phones usually categorise the phones so you can make an informed choice when considering a purchase. Just make sure to do your research and find the right fit for you. Many companies also offer warranties too.
The latest phone model, but for less
Dreaming of the latest Android device but don’t want to pay that much money? Why not check out refurbished phone options? You can get the latest tech for hundreds of pounds less just because they are classed as ‘refurbished’. If you buy just the device, you won’t have to get trapped into a network contract just to acquire your dream device either. Freedom!
Not only can you save some pennies, you can also help save the planet
I was absolutely gutted to learn that globally there is over 50 million tonnes of e-waste created each year. Yikes!
Now consider that we are just talking about electrical waste and not ALL waste, and you can begin to see a big problem which doesn’t seem to be shrinking any time soon. That is of course unless we all play a part.
When you buy a refurbished device you are preventing a device ending up in a landfill and adding to that ever-growing e-waste pile. You also get an epic new phone with a side of smugness, knowing you’ve done something that would make David Attenborough happy with you.
Be kinder to the planet and make money
Yep, it’s not just the purchasing of a refurbished phone that can help you do your part for the planet; you can also sell or recycle your old devices and make some money whilst doing so.
