Choosing a gift for a young child can be difficult. Thankfully though, there are some online retailers that specialise in great toys for primary-age kids and younger. With a three-year-old daughter that’s always looking to be entertained, I thought I’d give WowWow toys a whirl. They’ve got a huge range of items to choose from, but I soon found three particular toys that I knew my daughter would LOVE. Here’s how we got on with them.

Peppa Pig Guitar

My daughter, like most youngsters, loves Peppa Pig.

Myself, I thought it was alright the first 8,000 times I watched it, though the appeal is starting to wear somewhat.

Luckily, I’ve been able to pull my daughter away from her 129th rewatch of season 3 by presenting her with this lovely guitar. She surprised me by immediately getting it in the right position and handling it like a pro.

Of course, the following ‘music’ she made with her violent twanging was less pro-like, but it’s lovely to see her enjoy getting to grips with a musical instrument. There’s scope to tune the strings, which she enjoyed experimenting with too. I’m sure it’s made to be more of a role-playing toy, but it also makes for an excellent introduction to guitars for little ones. It’s light and perfectly sized for toddlers to handle, so don’t be surprised when they want to take it to the supermarket with them to ‘entertain’ the other shoppers. I can never go back to Morrisons again.

Evo 6V Electric Unicorn Trike

unicorn electric trike — Yah, so since I’ve gone electric, I haven’t looked back. What, with the price of petrol nowadays and all.

If there’s one thing that’s available to today’s kids that I wish I had when I was younger, it’s electric ride-on toys.

Not only was the ride-on toy of my youth not electric, but it was also a replica of a bloody milk float. No Lambos or Ferraris for me back in the 80s, alas.

Whilst the imagination and fantasy of 80s ride-ons only stretched as far as early morning dairy delivery, I had an amazing array of vehicles to choose from for my little one. This electric unicorn trike was the pick of the bunch for me, and it’s safe to say that my daughter was thrilled with it too.

Assembly was simple, and the controls are even easier: a foot on the pedal is all it needs to go. After the initial surprise of hurtling toward the garage, she soon loved the independence of steering her own vehicle. There are lights and different buttons to press, with her favourite obviously being the horn she sounds whilst pretending to run me over. A perfect outdoor toy for the forthcoming summer

Peppa Pig Doctor Set

I expected this one to be the biggest hit out of everything I chose, and I was dead right. After a brief explanation of what some of the items were, my daughter set to healing a never-emptying waiting area full of stuffed animals and other toys with bizarre injuries. The inclusion of some toy tweezers and a toy otoscope (thing to look in ears), meant that there was a worryingly high amount of patients with bugs in their ears that needed removing.

Of course, I had to have a check up too, even though I told her I felt fine. Although my ears were thankfully insect-free, the toy thermometer apparently showed her I had a fever, and the toy dental mirror told her that I needed to brush my teeth again.

If you’re happy to be checked over by your young doctor at least 30 times a day, then this Peppa Pig doctor kit is a surefire winner with young kids. It packs away in a neat little case to carry around, but my daughter never lets me pack it away. She’s always on call.
