5 Moral Values to Explore with Your Child

Moral values are key to a child’s development in order for them to learn how to be strong, independent and mature people as they grow older. It’s important that parents direct their child through being compassionate, respectful, honest, grateful and patient, among other moral values. We’ll be taking a look at these 5 moral values with the guidance of this boarding school in the UK.

Compassion

This involves teaching your child how to be kind towards others and offer support where they can. If their parents express compassion often, they’re going to follow suit with their own forms of compassion. Examples include opening the door for others, helping people cross the road or directing a friend with their homework.

Respect

Being respectful will offer the opportunity for children to learn how to address people with the right kindness and understanding. Children should learn about not judging others even if they appear different to them. They should be able to withhold judgements and still offer support regardless of their thoughts of them.

Honesty

We should always encourage children to tell the truth even if it feels like it hurts. Train your child to always be honest, even in front of friends. If you’re continually truthful in front of your child they’ll learn that it’s okay to always speak their mind, and show them the consequences of what happens when they lie.

Gratitude

Being grateful for what you have comes from the amount of discipline found in the home. Have a level of control in the home and show your child that they can’t have anything and everything. They’ll soon learn to control their urges and feel more thankful for the days when they can have their favourite things.

Patience

Learning to bide your time is a core skill that helps children understand that not everything happens straight away. If you teach a child to be patient they also learn about gratefulness and understand the concept of waiting their turn.
