Christmas is so close now, that I can almost hear my wallet whimpering already! And as if the financial demands of the festive season weren’t enough, we also have to wrack our brains to find the perfect gift for our loved ones which we haven’t already bought them last year. Buying for kids can be especially challenging, as they’re not as good at hiding their disappointment when unwrapping bad gifts as us adults.
If you want to avoid that awful situation in which the child opens up their present, says “oh”, and then puts it to one side never to be touched again, take a look through this Christmas gift guide for the primary-aged boys in your life. These gifts are guaranteed to fetch a smile to face of even the hardest-to-please kids.
Spybots
T.R.I.P. here is just one of a range of spybots, but easily my favourite. Station him in your room, and he sets up an invisible motion-sensor beam. As soon as somebody interrupts the virtual tripwire by walking past it, alarms blare out, and little T.R.I.P. chases down the intruder! Absolutely essential for catching out sneaky siblings!

Tony Hawks 180 Signature Series Skateboard
A skateboard is one of those classic gifts for boys that just can’t miss: they’ve seen them on TV, and if they haven’t already, they all want to have a go at catching some asphalt waves!
If you’re going to buy a skateboard then, why not plump for one endorsed by the main man himself, Tony Hawks? These tough, 7-ply maple boards can take riders of up to 100kg, so I might even get to have a go (if I go easy on the turkey anyway). They also look the absolute business – just look at the underside!

Gigabots
As legend has it, Gigabot energy cores have laid dormant beneath the earth’s surface for millenia. Their subsequent uncovering and awakening into giant bots and beasts is probably a good argument against fracking, I guess. Kids won’t be concerned with the geo-political repercussions of this amazing discovery though, they’ll just want to get their mitts on amazing characters like Hyrobot and Torbot here.
Transforming into 13″ tall robots and 15″ long beasts, Gigabots come apart into multiple pieces that encourage kids to put their building skills to use by creating the beast/robot forms, and transforming them back to their energy core states.

Yonex Badminton Set
Badminton is perfect for introducing children to racquet sports. The slightly slower pace of a shuttlecock compared to tennis or squash balls, allows more time for kids to get their footing, and more chance to connect.
This high-quality set of racquets and shuttlecocks is just the thing to take on down to your local leisure centre and pull your child away from the screens they otherwise get glued to!

Spy Ninjas Ninja Noise Enhancer
Remember when you were younger and you wished you could hear what the grown-ups were talking about in hushed tones? If you’d have had one of these ninja noise enhancers to clip on your ear, you’d have wondered no more (though perhaps been scarred for life after hearing what Joyce across the road had been up to).
With an extendable mic to pick up even more detail, no secret is safe from any budding little spy in your household! Check out more of the Spy Ninjas range Find out more here!.

Stretch Star Wars
Star Wars is just one of those franchises that seems to span generations. Capturing the imagination of adults and children alike. Likewise, stretchy action figures like these are similarly timeless, so combining the two together is an absolute no-brainer!
You can stretch them to multiple times their original size, and they’ll always return to their prior state. The icing on the cake for any Star Wars Christmas gift is the opportunity to crack out the old ‘I sensed your presence/presents’ dad joke too. Win-win!
