Stretch Star Wars Review: Darth Vader and Boba Fett

Ad

When it comes to toys that are guaranteed to bring parents and children together, anything Star Wars related always delivers. My son and I managed to get our hands on two of the new range of figures for this Stretch Star Wars review: Darth Vader and Boba Fett. Both promise all the fun of the stretchy figure toys we love and remember from our youth, but wrapped up in a cool, new Star Wars themed form. What did my son think to them both though? Read on to find out.

Stretch Star Wars Review

I wondered what my son would make of both figures, seeing as he’s not overly familiar with the Star Wars universe. This didn’t seem to matter one jot however, as the timeless designs of the characters drew him in instantly anyway. The first figure we unboxed was Boba Fett.

Stretch Boba Fett

Not all stretch toys are created equal, and you can tell from just a few minutes playing with these, that the figures are well made. Plenty of attention has been given to getting the details just right: from the dint in his helmet, to the sideways-hanging cape.

The stretchiness is easy for young children to handle, but still feels assuredly rigid. We both took a set of limbs each, and tried to see how far we could extend poor old Boba Fett. We made it to a ridiculous distance before the figure quickly regained its shape. My son’s had a couple of stretch toys before that haven’t always been as quick to return to their original state, so this was a nice surprise. He’d have been more than happy to continue playing with the Boba Fett figure for the rest of the evening, if there wasn’t an imposing evil-looking figure in the background waiting to be unboxed too.

Stretch Darth Vader

There’s two sizes of Stretch Darth Vader available: the mini, and the one we have. To be honest, the names a little deceptive. If anything, the mini figures are normal size, and the larger ones are monolithic! It’s not so much about how tall they are, but how dense. I was amazed at the weight of this Darth Vader. He’s certainly a big old unit. From the looks of things, he’s been hitting the gym pretty hard, because he has beefed up, making his already intimidating figure even more daunting!

My son absolutely loved this figure. None of his other stretch toys had ever been as big and as heavy as this onyx colossus. Of course, we soon set to fighting between the two figures, and even I was nervous about this bulky baddy being flung toward me! Of course, it’s perfectly safe to play with, but the weight of it certainly makes an impression. This extra density makes the stretching a little tougher than it is for his smaller brethren, Boba Fett, but my eight-year-old son enjoyed the challenge. Those below the recommended age of 5+ may struggle to stretch him as far as they might the mini version though.

Stretch Star Wars Review – Verdict

A resounding success! These figures are clearly made to last, with Darth Vader in particular looking as if he’ll outlast me. These make for a great gift for even those unfamiliar with the franchise. Anyone who is a Star Wars fan though, will be pleased further still, at the potential to stretch some of their favourite characters to crazy lengths before seeing them morph back into shape.
