Most kids grumble at the thought of having to do chores, but it’s important for their development because it’s a chance for them to develop various key skills. Sometimes you might think it would be easier and quicker to just do the job yourself but doing so won’t do your child any favours in the long run. I have teamed up with a boys’ school in London to share some information on why chores are advantageous for young people.
Teaches Important Life Skills
When children help with chores, they are able to learn certain skills, like how to use the washing machine or oven, or how to hoover or set the table correctly. These are skills they will need as they grow up and eventually move into their own place. They also learn the importance of responsibility; if nobody does the chores the house will be a mess.
Helps Families Bond
Teamwork makes the dream work, as they say. When children help with chores, they are able to feel a sense of involvement in the family. They are able to see what their parents do for them on a daily basis, which might increase their sense of respect for you.

Requires Good Time Management
Chores help children learn about time management and efficiency. Procrastination will never get the job done, after all. This is important for them to learn from an early age and will serve them well as they grow up. In fact, good time management is a skill required in many jobs.
Improves Confidence
As children become more proficient at certain tasks, receive praise for a job well done, and feel trusted to complete things and help their parents, they will become increasingly more confident. Confidence is important because it will help them feel more comfortable when taking on new challenges and meeting new people.
