We took a look at Beer52 last week, so now’s the time for an in-depth Flavourly review! Again, your intrepid reporter has endured countless beer-swilling sessions to sort the wheat from the chaff. I even had to buy in a few extra crates so that I could make an even more informed decision. With that said then, is Flavourly any good?

I’d been searching for beer delivery services while being housebound, and Flavourly seemed like one of the very few that didn’t require the selling of a kidney to be able to afford. After talking out loud about my findings too, Facebook’s creepy omniscient algorithm popped a good-looking deal on my news feed, and the rest is history. To buy or not to buy? Read on to find out which way this Flavourly review goes.
What beers do you get in a Flavourly box?
That depends.
Now Flavourly differs from other subscription box services in that it offers the chance to use the site as an online shop without a subscription. Having already been snared in Beer52’s tasty trap, it was this non-subscription route that I took. Sure, you can have a box of mystery drinks sent to you on a regular basis, but they also offer those same beers throughout their shop.
I opted for a mixed case in the hope of a few novelties being thrown in, but have since used Flavourly to buy cases compiled of either the same beer, or beers from the same brewery. Novelty-wise there’s not a lot to go off; most of the beers were standard IPAs and pale ales (which I was fine with as these are right up my street), though in one mixed case we did receive some gooseberry gose (meh), and some coffee and raspberry sours (an absolute symphony in a glass!).
Notably, a lot of the beers seem to have been brewed directly in collaboration with Flavourly. While these are fine ales by themselves, it also means that customers are robbed of a bit of variety as most of the mixed cases are filled out with these.
Do you get any free gifts with Flavourly?
Certainly do, even without a subscription.
Almost all the boxes come with a few freebies thrown in. The usual bag of snacks that seem to accompany these types of beer subscription/mixed cases is there. Like many others, it almost always seems to be a packet of Love Corn roasted corn kernels: very nice, but a little samey each time. We did get some posh cheesy crackers once though.
The eponymous magazine bundled with each delivery is a bit lightweight. They generally offer an interview with a small brewery and a few tasting notes of other beers, but not much else. Perhaps I’d get more out of the magazine if I were a real craft beer enthusiast, but to be honest, I’d much rather have an extra snack.
The odd case even offers a couple of Flavourly glasses. We got some in our first case, and they’ve been in constant use ever since. They’re just the right size for the contents of those little craft cans, and have that tapered bowl-type design that allows you to stick your conk in it and describe the ‘citrus nose’ or whatnot.
Who owns Flavourly?
A young Scottish entrepreneur by the name of Ryan O’Rorke owns Flavourly. It’s not under some umbrella of a larger corporation. He set up the business to help small breweries reach bigger audiences.
Is Flavourly Safe?
Yes, Flavourly is safe to use. In fact it’s been around since 2012. You may even have seen the founder, Ryan O’Rorke pitching for the company on BBC’s Dragons’ Den.
Is Flavourly good value?
Yeah, I think so.
What it lacks in fancy novelty beers, it makes up for in reasonably priced sessionable ales. There is, however, a bit of a caveat with this.
For those familiar with Dominos pizzas, a similar approach has to be adopted here: DO NOT PAY FULL PRICE!

Flavourly Review: Overall Impression
Look, Flavourly isn’t going to get your heart racing. Apart from the odd exception, most of the beers are fairly standard IPAs and lagers. When I say standard though, I mean in a craft beer sense. You won’t be surprised by a Mongolian stout that tastes like beef Monster Munch for instance.
I love a good session IPA though, and these cases are good value to keep in the house. Delivery is free and generally pretty quick, though the cans ALWAYS turn up with great big dents in them. That’s not a big deal to me though, and if like me, you’re after some decent quality cans at a good price, then Flavourly should be one of your first calls.
