I’ve been there. Googling on my lunch breaks for whatever stay at home dad jobs I could find to allow me to quit my stressful career. I can’t confess to having tried all of them, nor can some of these create a full-time income on their own, but all are legitimate ways to make money. I’m tempted to try this to supplement my own income, though it seems that many are able to make a full-time income from it. VIPKid is one of the main players here, and at the time of writing, pay is around £5-£7 per 25 minute lesson with them.

You’ll need a decent webcam, strong broadband, and usually a degree or some TEFL certification, although some are more lenient. If you’ve got any teaching experience, then that’s even better. Lessons are planned for you, and from what I hear, the kids are generally very eager to learn.

They ask you to download some screen-recording software and record a 20 minute video of your experience. Each video nets you around £8. There’s the possibility of being picked for live conversations about your findings that will earn you closer to £90 as well.

You’re never going to get rich doing this, and you may need to buy a cheap microphone for the vids, but it looks like a decent little side hustle.

Look at Investing

If you already have a little bit of money put away, then why not make it work for you instead of allowing it to sit stagnant?

Fancy yourself as a budding author? It’s now easier than ever to get your work out there. Writing books certainly isn’t a get-rich-quick scheme, but there’s plenty of people who make a decent amount of passive income from selling their own novels and non-fiction. Volume is often the name of the game here, and those that write novels as part of a series seem to do quite well.

I would recommend looking at the rate of pay per audio minute and doing a little test before you apply. I tried an experiment with a YouTube video playing in the background, and found that transcribing a minute of audio takes much longer than I thought. One-finger typists need not apply!

Blogging

I make a small amount of money blogging, and whilst it’s tough to get the work, it’s certainly possible. My wife makes a decent income from her blog, and she knows of some bloggers who make very healthy amounts.

There’s a lot to take into account though. First you’ll need to set up your site (which involves some small start-up costs), and create regular content. After that you’ll need to figure out multiple ways to generate traffic to your site. In this digital age, things can change quickly. If you rely on one social network or search engine for all your traffic, then a quick algorithm update on their end can skewer your only source of visitors.

Blogs can earn money in a variety of ways: affiliate marketing, adverts, sponsored posts, or even selling a product. Thankfully Sensee don’t expect you to own all this until you’ve been accepted as one of their agents. After that, you’ll need to be kitted out before you take on your first shifts.
